Testimonials from Past Interns
The CELEST program went above and beyond my expectations. I not only extensively developed skills and experiences in an assigned lab, but I was also exposed to the research techniques used in a handful of labs through weekly lab visits, group meetings, and lunches with several different experts in the field of neuroscience. The mentors were truly welcoming and willing to teach students about their passion for research. It is this collaboration between research groups, mentors, and students that truly gets me excited for a career in research. I cannot be more thankful for the experience and memories from the most productive and invigorating summer to date!
During my summer with CELEST, I worked in Barbara Shinn-Cunningham’s Auditory Neuroscience lab. My main project dealt with how hearing aids might detrimentally affect sound localization, and ways that the signal processing of hearing aids could be altered to preserve sound source cues.
CELEST gave me the opportunity to do cutting edge research in a field I’m passionate about. The work I was doing had practical, real-world applications, which I found very exciting. The program fostered a truly interdisciplinary approach, and it was great getting to know all the other interns and learning about how their work related to mine. Speaking from my experience, Prof. Shinn-Cunningham really made me an active part of the team, and I felt like I played an important role in the lab while I was there.
As for the people, everyone on the CELEST staff was incredibly supportive, and it was great becoming friends with other interesting, thought-provoking interns in program. All that set against the backdrop of everything the city of Boston has to offer made for an amazing internship experience!
