  • A musical interlude, director Shinn-Cunningham’s solo performance with the Concord Orchestra

    Barb Concord Orchestra Pops

The Concord Orchestra's Spring 2014 event "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry" includes CELEST PI and Director Barbara Shinn-Cunningham performance of the solo piece The Swan of Tuonela by Jean Sibelius on English horn. A member of the Concord Orchestra, Shinn-Cunningham has received a special spotlight for her upcoming performance:

Each year at Pops, one of our members steps out to play a solo with the orchestra. This year, Barbara Shinn-Cunningham, English horn, will perform The Swan of Tuonela by Jean Sibelius [...] The Swan of Tuonela is a tone poem by Jean Sibelius based on Finnish mythology. It is the second section of his Lemminkäinen Suite of four tone poems. The swan is a mystical being that swims around Tuonela, the island of the dead in the underworld. "It's a very haunting, very emotional piece,"said Barbara.

The "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry" event takes place Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18. For more information about the Concord Orchestra website.
