Roxann Harvey

Roxann Harvey is a past Co-President of CELEST Student Group and is pursuing a doctorate in the Boston University Psychology Department.
Her background includes a BS in Psychology from UMASS Boston with a minor in Biology and a concentration in Bio-behavioral Studies. As an undergraduate she assisted in research at the UMASS-Boston Behavioral Neuroscience and Cognitive Neuroscience laboratories.
Roxann is a Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program scholar and was attracted to CELEST and BU/Psychology because she wanted to train in a interdisciplinary program that had a strong focus on behavioral and cognitive research.
Today
In addition to her leadership role in CELEST, she is a Discussion Facilitator for Boston University’s Responsible Conduct of Research seminar series.
In her doctoral research at BU’s Laboratory of Behavioral Neuroscience , Roxann is using an animal model of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to investigate co-morbidity between ADHD and cocaine addiction and the effects of methylphenidate on selective attention.
Roxann’s Goals after Earning Her PhD
First be a postdoctoral fellow using behavioral neuroscience methods to examine prefrontal cortex deficits
Then to become an independent researcher, educator, and mentor for younger generations and underrepresented scientists
And finally to become a professor at a multidisciplinary center similar to CELEST that examines and models cognitive functions from neurons to behavior with translational implications for society
